Senator Raja Mohammad Zafarul Haq,
Secretary General of Motamar Al-Alam Al-Islami (World Muslim Congress)
has called upon the Muslim Ummah to make serious and united efforts
to protect al-Quds al-Sharif from Israeli occupation.
Speaking at the inaugural session
of the international conference on al-Quds convened on August 23-24
in Amman, Jordan, the Motamar Secretary General pointed out that through
a systematic programme the issue of Al-Quds was relegated from the Muslim
Ummah level, to the Arab level and later on further to the Palestinian
level, as a result of which the real strength of the entire Muslim world
was kept away to facilitate and force a settlement of this crucial problem
purely at the terms of Israel.
“Future generations of Muslims,
throughout the world, would never forgive us if we failed to protect
the eternal Islamic character of this holy city (al-Quds)”, he warned.
He called to convene an international
conference of parliamentarians to evolve a common strategy even at the
non-government level.
He urged the Muslim Ummah to “fully
support the legitimate demands for the restoration of all Arab and Palestinian
lands, illegally occupied (by Israel) through sheer force since 1948.”
“We also support the right of all
Palestinian refugees forced out of their homes and hearths and living
in almost all regions of the world to return to their ancestral land
in accordance with the U.N. General Assembly and Security Council resolutions,
especially Resolution Nos. 242 and 338,” he said adding “we should fully
support the right of Palestinian people to establish their independent
state.”
